The right condition for good development of rhododendrons is adequate soil. The soil must be acidic and constantly slightly moist. In most gardens, the soil is neutral or slightly acidic, because it is in this way that most plants grow well - but not rhododendrons. Therefore, in a place where we want to plant rhododendrons, the soil should be replaced.
Before planting, we dig a large pit 40-50 cm deep and 80 cm wide and fill it with a mixture specially designed for azaleas and rhododendrons. Such ready mixtures can be bought at garden stores. The substrate is mixed with garden soil, according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging. You can also make the right substrate yourself: mix peat, composted pine bark and garden soil in a 1: 1: 1 ratio - and plant plants in such a mixture. To this substrate you can add a handful of rhododendron fertilizer.
In autumn, rhododendrons need to be abundantly watered so that in spring they bloom profusely. Rhododendrons love shady and semi-shady areas, as well as acidic soil.
